On This Day 23rd April

Hello everyone, 

well, 400 years ago, Shakespeare died, and he was born a few years earlier, but to add to that, there are many interesting people that were born/ died 'On This Day' in History!

215 BC- A temple dedicated to Venus Erycina, to commemorate the Roman defeat at Lake Trasimene

1014- Ireland is freed of foreign control, when King Brian Boru defeats the Viking forces at the battle of Clontarf

1343- St. George’s Night uprising in Estonia (St George pictured Right)

1516- Duke of Bavaria, Wilhelm IV, endorses the ‘German Beer Standard Law’

1597- William Shakespeare’s play, ‘The Merry Wives of Windsor’ is performed for the first time, also with Queen Elizabeth I in attendance
